fly pattern selection
Question
I am brand new to fly fishing and tying.
Here in Minnesota, fishing for brown trout on the Root River, what dry fly pattern have you found to work the best overall or better yet, which are the top three dry fly patterns
Answer
Randy,
I apologize for the delay in answering your question. You really need to take a look at the insects that are around the water in order to make the best decision on a particular fly. This will likely change many times throughout the day and varies depending on the time of year (called matching the hatch).
If I had to pick the top three, I would suggest Adams, Humpy, and Hopper. Hopefully this helps.
