greenheart salmon rod
Question
I brought this rod from a second hand shop 20 years ago as a project stripped it completely, re whipped on a new set of rings re varnished it. im now trying to find out some details about this rod. It is 13ft 6ins 3 sections the but section cork seems to be all in one i left that well alone. the name of the maker is ROBERTSON MAKER GLASGOW and another name on the butt end is the BALMAHA i think its made of greenheart (not certain)there is reference to the maker on the net but it ends there any information would be appreciated.
many thanks john
Answer
Hi John - I don't know much about Robertson rods. I do know the Robertson company was more well know for thier fly fishing reels. The few rods of thiers I've seen were a darker tone cane. They were around in Glasgow in the 30's and 40's. I believe the BALMAHA is the model name for that rod - a 13 and 1/2 foot Salmon rod. They are not particularly popular or valuable. Complete your resotration and fish and enjoy it. I hope that helps,
