old sure strike fly rod
Question
I was just given an old Sure Strike five piece fly rod in it's original wooden box. It looks like it has never been used and all of the flies and hardware are still there and plastic cover. There is three end sections that are different lengths and thickness. Have you ever heard of these rods? How old do you think it might be? Is it worth anything? Looks like a nice collectors item.
Thanks
Paul
Answer
Hi Paul - After World War II Japanese companies were cranking out cane rods by the thousands. These rods were made of inferior quality Korean cane. The Sure Strike rods are one of these lines. Unfortunately the rod is not worth anything and is most likely not a good fishing rod either. If it has family/sentimental value than cherish it. Otherwise it's not worth anything really. I hope this helps.
