Vintage Lures
Question
After my mother passed away I was cleaning out the attic and found a box from the Bronson Reel Co. It had a postage date of Aug 46 . I was curious if the lures I found in the box were from that company or not. The one had the name jitterbug on it, the other had no name. I know they are made of wood but can find no other markings. Thanks for your input.
Answer
Hi Dana,
The Jitterbug was made by the Fred Arbogast Company. If it is wood and is good condition it may be worth $10-$20 and maybe a little more if it would happen to be a rare color.
They had nothing to do with Bronson Reels. Bronson reels made mid priced reels through the 40's and early 50's. They made so many that they aren't worth much to collectors.
If you posted a picture of the other lure I may be able to identify it.
You can still buy Jitterbugs but they are plastic. In my opinion, the old wood ones were far better. A huge lure conglomerate named Pradco bought out Arbogast and like most everything, found a way to make them cheaper. Still a great bass surface bait.
Thanks, and good fishing.
