QuestionI have my Dad's Folsom 3 section rod marked #1515 9 1/2'. The tip is broken off. looks like about 4", nearly back to the second guide. It has sentimental value and I would like to get it repaired. Have you any suggestions?
AnswerHi Matt,
The 1515 was made by heddon for Folsum Arms Company. It should have two tip sections. If you only have one, the value of the rod will be much lower than usual. These are not real high value rods, but they are good rods. You have some choices on repair:
1. leave the tip short and just install a new tiptop.
2. find a used or build a new suitable replacement tip section.
3. scarf in a new piece to extend the tip section to full length.
I suspect that option 3 would cost more than the rod is worth. Option 2 would be a more reasonably priced choice assuming a suitable used tip can be located; a fairly expensive option if the tip must be built from scratch. Option 1 would retunr the rod to fishing use but would leave the value substantially lower.
If you can send me a picture of the rod, I'll take a look at it and try to give you some prices and a value estimate. Send to

Thanks, Joe
