Sport King Fly Rod made od Tonkin Cane
Question
I have my Grandfather's Sport King Fly rod. The rod is in 3 pieces and 9 ft. long. Tonkin Cane is written on the rod. It is in it's original material case with separate pockets for each piece of the rod. The label is still on the case, Sports King Fly Rod Model 34 60-6655 Length 9 Ft. Made in the USA. Montgomery Ward. I believe Tonkin canes were only made between 1920-1950 and the 3 piece is the most collectable.
All the eyes are perfect but the cork has a small hunk out a small slits where he but the hook.
Can you tell me the price rangey this would be to a collector of such item?
Sincerely Donna of Wisconsin
Answer
Donna
Montgomery Ward didn't make fishing tackle. The rod was probably made by Horrocks Ibbotson which produced low to medium quality fishing tackle. also, 9 Ft is the most common length rod.
These rods sell for $40-60 in excellent to mint condition with the original bag, etc.
