Question
Supreme Tackle
I have a bamboo rod that is very similar to a Montegue boat rod that I saw online. The label says Supreme Tackle Philadelphia, Pa. Overall it is about 5 1/2 feet erected. I cant seem to find anything on this company. Is this rod collectable? Does it have any value? Thanks for your help.
AnswerHi Chris,
I didn't find anything on the company either. My guess is that Supreme Tackle was a sporting goods shop and had the rods made by either Montague or Horrocks-Ibbotson. You are correct that this is a boat rod and it does look like a Montague. It also looks to be in pretty good shape. The reel seat will polish out by using a little "0000" steel wool and/or some Brasso. As long as the rod shaft and guides are in good condition, you should be able to fish with the rod today. Value on this one is in the $40-$60 range depending on actual condition. Value on these old boat rods has been creeping up in the past few years as they are rediscovered by fishermen.
Thanks, Joe
