Orchad Industries fishing rod
Question
Hello Joe
I read that answer on Orchard Industries fishing rods and was wondering if there would be a buyer for mine.
It is a round steel rod, about 54 inches ong with a light blue plastic handdle with white trim plastic. There is a small section above the reel mount with the same blue/white plastic. This plastic is heavy duty. Inside the reel mount it says Action-Rod and then Orchard Industries Inc, Detroit 12, Michigan and the patent number 1920966 and other patent numbers pending. It is in good shape. There is a reel with it and it says No.1924 Direct Drive by Shakespeare and then a fancy logo "Inglis". It also says model FK which I believe is the year 1951 manufacture. What have I got here and is there anybody that would be interested in buying it?
Any help would be appreciated.
Walter
Answer
Hi Walter,
You have a steel bait casting rod with fancy bakelite (early plastic) grip and fore grip. Value depends on condition. This style rod from Orchard is their best collector value rod. In Good-Very Good condition value is in the $50-80 range; in Excellent condition in the $80-$120 range.
I don't know where you can find a buyer, but I suspect there is one out there. Try some of the steel rod and fiberglass rod forums.
Thanks, Joe
