fishing rig
Question
I am thinking of rigging up a rod this year with a floating rapala for carolina set up. Is this a bad idea, as I can't seem to find any articles with this set up ? Mostly large mouth bass fishing here in Michigan.
Answer
Hi Ken!! How are you, good I hope! I've never heard of anybody using a floating rapala on a carolina rig, but this may not be a bad idea!! I know some guys are using a sebile magic swimmer soft on a carolina rig, and I know many bass guys prefer a soft bait that's buoyant, so why not a rapala floater? My only concern would be retrieve speed and where your throwing it. One of the floaters best qualities is it's action, so I think you would have to retrieve the rig much faster than you would a carolina rig with a soft plastic, to keep the floaters wounded action. I wouldn't throw this rig anywhere near the bottom that was weedy or too rocky, due in part, as you know, the floater has 2 or 3 treble hooks on it, and it could get hung up very easily. I would throw this on bottom with little to no weeds, or light rocky bottom [ like pea gravel, or sand, etc.] The beauty with fishing is if their not biting traditional baits in the same manner, throw them a curveball and I bet you will get bit on this rig idea!! I know of some pros carolina rig crankbaits to get them down waaaaay deep when the bites off. So your idea might just be the next big craze in bass fishing, hey let me know how this works out, I'm also a Michigan native myself, Hey Ken GOOD FISHING!!!
