Wright & McGill Granger Victory Rod
Question
I am trying to get some information on the above fly rod. The number is GV 9053. It's a 9', 5 3/4 oz. bamboo style. The rod is in a canvas bag, and comes in a cardboard tube. The name Wright McGill and Grand Victory are written on the base of the shaft just above the cork handle. If this was ever used, it was very well cared for. The overall conditon appears to be new. I have found some other 9053 models but not with the prefix "GV". Any information about the rod or it's value would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Woody
Answer
Woody,
Wright & McGill is a fishing tackle company dating back to the 1920s. They did not make a competitive split bamboo fly rod, so they acquired Goodwin Granger after WWII.
Your rod is valuable and condition sounds great. The size is pretty common 9'. Values on these rods have fluctuated greatly, hurt by the economy, but this website can give you a current appraisal
