Question
Rod and Box
I was wondering about the value of this item, i could not find any information online. I have attached some pictures for you. the wooded box has two sliding covers the reveals the compartments for lures and hooks. There are three end sections and one middle section. The handle section has a cork grip. All sections are black with gold thread with a red band wrapping the eyelets, and in good condition. The triangle shape label has a gold metal flake background green border. There is a picture of a dragon, the word "Dragon" is in red and in black is says "Mark Dark Red". There is also an band label with gold metal flake background the says "Made In Japan"
Any help you could give me would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.
AnswerRobert,
I recognized your rod from the box even before I read "made in Japan"
Originally sold by the thousands to GIs in a light long box with lures and huge flies . Mostly considered trinkets by collectors but memorial to GIs , they have little resale or fishing value. I have never seen any written history on them in English except the following. http://www.maxrod.net/article/
There is a book on Goggle books, with a little history and a limited preview: Bamboo In Japan by Nancy Moore Bess
