Question
rod
Hi,
I was hoping you might be able to give me some information about a fishing rod I got about 15 or so years ago at a garage sale in California. The reason I was curious about it is because a few years after I got it I was driving near the coastline in California and we stopped a small mom & pop store to get a soda, and they had what appeared to be the same type of pole hanging behind the register. When I asked the cashier about it he said it was his boss's and that he got it at an auction. That, of course, piqued my curiosity.
Anyway, on to the rod:
What's left of the label is a small gold sticker that says "Golden Gate" and "QUALITY." (Which made it VERY difficult to google it!)
It's about 76" tall, and has 4 eyes.
I'll try and add some pics.
Thanks, Rich
AnswerRich,
What is the rod made of , bamboo flat sided or fiberglass (round ) perhaps graphite also round.
If bamboo then it is probably Japanese and worthless. They often used quality on their rods.
I am guessing that it is not a fly rod but is a surf rod. That is why you can't find information on it .
Sorry I can't tell from the picture , but my guess is that it is fiberglass.
Which is another strike against finding any info on the rod. I see a golden gate on ebay - might ask the seller if he has any information on it.
Fly rods are rarely that short at 6 foot and they are the ones the collectors want and so the histories are written on the bamboo fly rod.
I have no specific history or books on fiberglass, I believe they don't exist, but here's two web sites that on fiberglass:
