QuestionI was given an old South bend bamboo fly rod three piece with (two tip pieces) It says hdh or d. I think that is a 6 weight line. Can i use this thing or should i have it looked at first. I would hate to break it. Also, it does need some work do you know of anyone in my area that you would trust.
AnswerDear Anonymous,
I a going to assume , it is flat sided not round, therefor it is bamboo .
As well I am going to assume the reel is below not above the cork handle, therefor a fly rod.
Resale value depends a great deal on condition and model.
Also most I have seen are 3 piece none footers, if not try again. Yes probably a 6 weight.
I would guess it to be is worth about $35, using the price Book ,Antique & Collectible Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.
The person I trust the most to restore is me , mac at
[email protected] in Denver, CO
I am very busy so I would not get it done before the fishing season starts.
Luck to you
Mac
