Match pole to Zebco model 55
Question
I recently purchased a Zebco model 55, like new, with box as a gift to replace my Fathers old one (which was beyond repair and has not been used in 35 years or more). Anyway I want to know what test line would be best, and more important what pole to put it on. The pole does not have to be vintage, new would be better.
I have the original owners manual but want your expert advise. I would like to give this to dad on Easter....
Answer
Steven,
I my way of thinking , I match pole to line and the reel is not the priority.
I am assuming your reel is a fly reel - be sure and put backing on it and then get a 9 foot 6 weight rod and line.
You can go for trout , carp and bass with it. I have taken steel head and salmon with mine
Some guys like the lighter weight tackle with bugger fish like Bill Dance.
But if you are going after ocean - Tarpon , Permit or Bone fish - a longer rod and a heavier line like 10ft , 10 lb would be called for.
SO its a personal preference and skill set deal , actually.
Luck
Mac
