Heddon model #60 shorter faster
Question
I have a small bamboo rod collection and for some reason have acquired mostly Heddon bamboo rods. I have an 8.5 ft model #50 president deluxe 1 3|4F, and a 1936 model#1000, Rod of Rods deluxe. I am looking for a shorter 7 ft or 7'3" model #60. Can you tell me where I might find one and an idea of what cost to expect.
thank you in advance.

Answer
Cabot,
Faster ? The whole idea of bamboo is slower actions. You would need one made for you to avoid slow actions. email macsrods@yahoo.com, for more on that.
Books are the best answer but ebay can get you a cost estimate, too.
Price Book:
Antique & Collectible Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book. Read the information on rod condition carefully.
Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook by Michael Sinclair
They should be in your library system.
Homel doesn't mention a model 60 but Sinclair does. Shorter rods like 7 1/2' are going to be more than a 9 footer. Same with 2 sections more than 3 sections. Lets take the most famous Heddon rod, the Black Beauty , #17. Homel gives the Heddon #17 "Black Beauty" fly rod 7 1 /2' with an extra tip, 2 sections the value of $100, 295 and $500 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively. At the low end with that length and 2/2 , values 90, 265, and 400, same conditions.
Myself I would find one for under $100, in poor condition, and get it restored( I do that) for about $200 and have a $500 rod.
Besides ebay I would also recommend you to put a wanted ad on Clarks Bamboo Fly Rod Forum ,classified area:
http://quashnet.clarksclassicflyrodforum.yuku.com/
There are numerous fishing auction sites but they don't have the volume that ebay does
