Question
H-I fly rod
Hi,
I have a Horrocks-Ibotson fly It is inscribe with the words Canada Creek and a quarter turn later the signature Impregnated. I have all four pieces, the original sheath, and the original tube. Can you help me find it's value? Thankyou very much
AnswerShaun
Total length , number of sections , number of tips, l;length of each section would have helped . Here's my guess:
It's nine feet long , flat sided (bamboo) and handle is below reel seat.
If your rod was made by Horrocks-Ibbotson, it is not very valuable.
They are looked down upon by the collecting community and often they are justified. They were sort of mass produced , rather heavy and very slow. They are not going to resale for very much.
A small portion of these rods are decent fishing tools . It is the collector community that decides the prices , please don't blame the messenger.
I find two books are available at larger libraries to get history and or value:
Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) ,add 30% due to the age of the book.
Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook -Michael Sinclair

Homel gives the Horrocks-Ibbotson "Canada Creek" trout fly rod 8' with an extra tip, 3 sections the value of $25, 75, and 135 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively.
So it is less for a longer rod, might go for 80.
I highly recommend that you get Homel from the library and read about condition. Excellent means like new.
Luck,
Mac
