value of Heddon`s #50 fly rod
Question
I found a Heddon`s #50,3 peice w/extra tip, in a metal tube. up in the attic. And I would like to know what it`s worth. I would say its in very good shape, hardly used, thread is loose on one eye, and no scraches where the reel mounts.
Answer
Charlie,
Value depends on maker , length and condition.
I am assuming your rod is flat sided bamboo , with reel below handle.
Heddon is known to collectors and is considered to be medium quality and value.
I am going to guess it is 9 feet because that is the most common. Shorter is worth more.
Price Book:
Antique & Collectible Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.
Homel gives the Hardy 9' model #50 "President" fly rod with an extra tip, 3 sections the value of $80, 190 and $305 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively.
If there is loose thread anywhere on the rod it is not in excellent condition.
Luck,
Mac
