Selling Rods
Question
Hello!
I'm 14 and my grandpa is going through some his fishing rods that he wants to sell. They all are in good condition, not perfect, but still good. Theres four at the moment he wants to sell and I am helping him find selling prices.
One is a South Bend Model C, No 30 rod and reel.
Another South Bend, Anti Back Lash, Style #1200
Ocean City #35, Philidelphia
And National Sportsman Horrocks Ibbotson Co.
I know hardly anything about fishing Companies. I know those have very little info. But answering about any or all would be a great help!
Answer
Hello
The South bend Model C 30 fishing reels sell for less than $10.
The SB 1200 sell for $10, if you have the original box/leather container $20
Ocean City #35 is $10-15 reel.
Your items were lower cost high production items in their day. Thus they don't generate much collector interest unless they are mint in the original packaging.
South Bend was a major tackle company out of South Bend Indiana. Interestingly your reels were made by Shakespeare for South Bend. The company dates back before WWI and is best known for the Bass Oreno fishing lure.
Horrocks Ibbotson was out of Utica NY, again they sold lower end fishing tackle, their rods don't generate much value.
If you want to learn more, there are two national clubs NFLCC (National Fishing Lures Collectors Club) and ORCA (Old Reel Collectors Association). Both have websites.
Does your father have any old fishing lures, particularly wooden with glass eyes?

Bob
