finish on silk threads for bamboo rod
Question
Can I use a finish like Flex CoatwrnI rather than varnish on silk thread for bamboo rod?
Answer
Doug,
Almost no one does use Flex Coat 3 part epoxy because you have to put finish on the rest of the rod. Some use color preserve , linseed oil, Shellac but most use tonque oil as I do only on the wrappings. This helps preserve your wrappings until you finish all wraps then you dip finish. You can spray a rod like Mike Clark of Lyons CO. I have tried and it is impossible to brush finish. Please see how easy it is to dip finish on web site http://www.macsrods.com/macsrodshome/dip.html
I hope this helps let me know if I misunderstood your question.

Also I do recommend Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook by Michael Sinclair
So don't use epoxy - it looks tacky.
