Split Bamboo Fly Rod

Question
Hi Marc,
With the passing of a family member I have come into possession of a Horrocks-Ibbotson Beaver split bamboo fly rod. Lenght is 8 1/2 ft. There are 4 pieces. Looks like 3 actually make the entire rod & it has an extra top piece. I am not sure if the rod has ever been used. It is in excellent shape & so is the carrying case & tube. I know nothing about fly rods so anything you can tell me would be great.  Thanks, Phil

Answer
Hi Phil,

Yes it has an extra tip.  Most H-I rods that you see will be from around 1935 to 1950 or so.  A rod like that in great condition could be worth $200-$300 (maybe a little more) to the right collector.

A photo would help someone like Joe Douglas (on this site) identify it further.  Run this past him with some shots of the handle and decals and he will give you a firm time period.

Nice item,

Marc
