What is the word origin for aqua?

Aqua is a Latin word meaning "water." It is derived from the Proto-Indo-European root *ak"-, meaning "wet" or "water." This root is also the source of the English words "lake," "river," and "ocean."

Aqua has been used in English since the 14th century. It is often used in scientific and technical contexts, such as in the names of chemical compounds (e.g., "aqua regia") and in the study of water resources (e.g., "aquaculture").
