When was the water pik invented?

The Waterpik was invented in 1962 by John Mattingly, a dentist from Fort Collins, Colorado. Dr. Mattingly developed the Waterpik as a way to help his patients keep their teeth and gums healthy. He based the design of the Waterpik on the irrigation systems that were used in dentistry at the time.
