horrocks-ibbotson fiberglass rod
Question
I am trying to get info on value and rarity of a horrocks-ibbotson 2-pc rod spinning rod from I believe the late 40's early 50's. It is 7ft. long, med. brown in color with a cork grip. It has two sliding rings on the grip which secure the reel to rod. It has a banner style decal on the rod just above grip which says MOHAWK with a native american wearing a war bonnet facing left on the left side of the decal. It came with the original, I believe, cloth storage bag and cardboard tube. The tube has a label with the company name. It also says berkshire fiber glass spinning rod medium action no. 1425. The rod is in good to excellent condition. Any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and hope to hear from you soon!
Answer
Hi
Horrocks Ibbotson was one of the major fishing tackle companies, operating out of NY. They made low to medium quality fishing rods. Thus their tackle was fairly inexpensive and made in relatively high volumes.
Your rod, complete with the bag and tube would sell in the $25 to 40 range...
