Carp locations
Question
Hi Jack. I'm a fly angler and am looking for some shallow water carp to chase. Are there any particular flats on the lake with good visibility that are known to be inhabited by decent sized carp?
Thanks!
Answer
Christian, This lake has a large area of shallow flats and a fairly large population of good size carp. However the lake is also quite weedy. Early in the spring or now in the fall the weeds begin to die back and many of the flats are fishable. Some of the flats that I am familiar with are located as follows.
Out from the marina Wingates, located on the south side of the lake out to the right as you leave the marina is a large flats area. Also in the area between the Spring Creek channel east of Sealies Island are several small islands and flats between them. You will need a flat bottom boat to get through some places only a few inches deep. Also in the area of the mouth of fishpond drain are some shallows between some of the small islands which should be good. If you look at one of the fishing maps of the lake you should be able to find other places not familiar to me. Good luck with your fly fishing for carp. I have caught a few over the years and they are good fighters and if prepared right not at all bad eating.
Thanks for calling on me to answer your question. I hope it is helpful.

Lake Seminole, Georgia.
P.S. There is one more place you might look. On the Chattahoochee arm on the west side of the river channel is a fairly large area not too heavily weeded. You need to run up the river above the Land's End resort following the river channel. Here there is a long narrow island that has some breaks in it to let you through. Go through these cuts and check this out. Your Georgia fishing license is good over to the road running north to south on that side of the lake. The flats I mention are in the Georgia area.
