QuestionI have a Phillipson Pacemaker in it's sleeve in an aluminum case. The only identifying marks on it are c8 8 1/2-5 HDH. It's never been used and in mint condition. Could you give me the value of it?
AnswerKaren,
If the only identifying markings are "c8 8 1/2-5 HDH" then how do you know it is a "Phillipson Pacemaker"?
I am going to assume and guess that the words "Phillipson Pacemaker" are written in cursive on the rod itself. If you are going by id marks on the sleeve or aluminum case , no collector will accept that id and by evaluation is not valid.
Price Book:
Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book
Homel gives the Phillipson 8.5 model Pacemaker with an extra tip, 3 sections a value of $75, 175 and $315 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively.
Excellent means like brand new. The finish and threads are not worn or sluffing. No sets - sections aren't bent.
Bill P. made good rods and the price is reasonable if the condition is excellent. If the condition is good then you are being taken.
Summary ?Excellent Condition
(1# Fine, original finish
#2# No missing sections or components
#3# No breaks, fractures, dirt or wear
#4# Shows evidence of only minimal use
#4) Original bag and case with tags and labels
See Homel at your local library for a complete criteria of conditions. If you can't find it, e-mail me for a webpage,

Mac
