QuestionQUESTION: I have a Bass Pro BHV 56 Model H113-786 boron rod that is from about 1984 or 1985. The rod is in great condition and it is hard to beat a boron rod but the reel seat is broken on this one and I would like to find a replacement seat. I have photos if that would help.
ANSWER: Hi Roger,
Yes a photo would help just to see what the damage is. Replacing a seat is a pain. It can be done but to do it right the builder may have to strip off all the guides. You can put one on from the rear if the taper is slow.
Is it broke or just loose?
Lets have a look at it.
Thanks,
Marc

QUESTION: Here is the picture.
On this model the reel seat has a brass threaded stud coming out of the seat rather than a bolt that goes throgh the rod handle. The other side has a head like a large slotted screw but with internal threads that the stud screws into.
AnswerHi Roger,
Ya Roger, this isn't good. Thats probably a unique part for that reel seat and now it's 25 years later. I'm sure that rod was made overseas too. And now that I see it I don't think I'd suggest that you replace the handle. It would be a mess. They don't even make the Fuji pistol grip handles anymore.
I don't have a magic answer but here is where I'd start. Go on Bass Pro Shops website and find the number to the reel repair department. I have called them about all kinds of old reels and they have come through often. They may have access to rod parts as well.
My second option would be to head to the best hardware store in the area and find the grey-haired guy back in the parts department. He may look at the piece and know of something else that may work. It may be a piece from a lock or lawn mower or whatever but with a little modification it may work. Those guys are pretty sharp and have seen it all.
I wish I had a better answer. But now I am intrigued. Please keep me posted on your progress.
Good luck,
Marc
