How do Angler fish get their name?

Anglerfish get their name from the modified dorsal fin spine that is found on their head. This spine is used as a lure to attract prey. The spine is bioluminescent, meaning that it glows in the dark. This attracts small fish and other sea creatures to the anglerfish. Once the prey is close enough, the anglerfish will quickly open its mouth and swallow it whole.
