Heddon mark special rod found
Question
I have come across a rod with the inscription Heddon Mark special purpose #6277
51/2 medium-heavy action
3/8 to 1oz lure 8# to 20# line
Most of the comments are in regards to fly poles. Any comments as to it's worth?
Answer
Dale,
You did not specify if this was a bamboo or fiberglass rod.
No, you aren't going to see much action on non fly rods. The collectors don't want them and they command the prices and history. Heddon make very good medium price and quality rods.
Some books on Heddon- there is history of this maker
Books: Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book
Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook
Heddon The Rod with the FIGHTING HEART- both by Michael Sinclair

Homel gives the Heddon bamboo spinning rod 5 1/2' with an extra tip, 2 sections the value of $40, 80 and $165
But he gives the "Mark I - IV" fiberglass casting & spinning rods $3, 9, and 18 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively.
Be wary of people saying fiberglass is worth thousands , they may be great fishing tools or very old but they just don't resale very well
Luck,
Mac
Please provide feedback, nominations are appreciated.
