harnell fly rod
Question
I have a harnell pole #5304 with a gadabout gaddis label. I'd like to know when this rod was mfg;and what size line to use with rod.thank you!
Answer
Charles.
Harnell made fiberglass rods made out of Huntington Beach CA in the 1950s and early 1960s. Horrocks Ibbotson out of Utica NY purchased the company in the 1960s which was then rolled into the Gladding Tackle company which failed in the 1970s.
I am guessing your rod is from the late 60s early 70s. They typically sell for $25 to 50 depending on condition.
Typically a rod has a marking on line weight, I don't have any reference material on this specific rod. I would recommend either going to a fly rod shop and getting advice based on rod length and feel, or by trial and error.
