Question
Cork comfort grip
Would like to know approx value. Has been in case with cloth for many years. All eyes are intact and there is no unwinding of thread on eyelets. no nicks and very smooth surface, cork handle has some wear from use. Cardboard tube has most wear with some peeling and fading and no cap but sill strong. E or HDH line recommended, overall seems to be in great shape.
AnswerDave,
They made the comficient grip first in 1939 and made rods until 1951.
From the little I can see in your picture shows me the rod is probably in at least very good condition.
Value depends on length as well as condition.Shorter rods are more valuable.
I am going to guess it is a 2 piece rod.
From the line weight, E or HDH, I am going to guess it is 7 1/2 foot.
Price Book:
<u>Antique & Collectible Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide<u> by Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.
Homel gives the 7.5 model (c.1950) Southbend Rod #290 with an extra tip, 2 sections a value of $40, 125 and $225 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively. I would guestimate I could get 250 ,maybe $300 if timed right.
Luck,
Mac
