Question
Rod
Hello Rich,
I wonder if you can help me?
I am looking to find an approximate value of my Hardy Rod (see attached)
It was my Fathers and is in perfect condition apart from a little nick out of the corking.
I also have the reel that was bought with the rod and would like to know:
a) an approximate value (If possible)
b) If I were to sell them would it be best to advertise them together or separate. (and where!)
I do have more pictures but this site seems to allow the posting of only one.
Many thanks,
Simon
AnswerSimon,
Hard to say how much it is worth from a picture.
Condition is only one element in the value of a bamboo rod. Rod length, model and date heavily influence my estimate.
It has intermediate wraps , decorative every 1-3 inches and that dates it to the pre 1930s - usually. And it is a bamboo fly rod so it is worth looking into.
If you are looking for a ball park figure, then not less than 250 and not more than 700. But that is just a guess, please do not quote me. Reels don't make much of a difference like $20- but I would sell it as a unit.
The fact you have the extra tip, bag and tube adds some resale value , like $75. I would say the condition is at least very good , could be more , I'd have to see it to really say. I do sell rods on commission. Hardy is a world renown maker and they sell well.
Ebay US and or UK is a good place to sell.
If you want better details, lets try again - as I say on the all experts web page:
If you are asking for the id or value of an old rod please give a complete description , send pictures especially labels or logos to me,
[email protected] and a complete description including any of following that you can:
Is it? fly or casting rod ? Reel seat is below or above the cork handle ?
Check metal for id and patents ? What is it made of; bamboo ( flat sided) fiberglass or graphite ( round)? Weight in oz? What is the diameter (not circumference) of the rod above the handle? Where and when was it purchased ? What type of metal nickel-silver, tin, or chrome platted brass? A complete description of any logos or labels. Length of rod per section and number of sections. Total rod length.
Luck,
Mac
