What can you tell me about it concerning value and best place to sell?
What other options are available besides E-bay as i have no photo ability.
Is this item collectable.
This was one of my fathers fly rods.It does have some sentimental value and therefore needs a proper new home, as i am the end of my family line.
Answer
Randy,
I changed this answer to public so others can benefit from my answer.
Value depends on condition and length, as well as maker and model.
Heddon made a decent rod - medium resale values and quality. I sold several unused ones for 300-500 2 years ago.
You can try to sell this rod without pictures, but you are not going to get very much. People need to see the rod.
here are three Heddon fly rod models #17 in 4 lengths
7 1/2 , 8 , and 8 1/2 feet all were 3 sections / 2 tips but the 7 1/2 which is a 2 section with 2 tips. The shorter , 2 piece rods are more valuable.
I am in Denver and charge nothing for estimates. However I can tell you what my book has for prices (Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997)
Rod Length Poor-fair good-vg ex-mint
#17 "Black Beauty" fly rod 7 1/2' 100 295 500
#17 "Black Beauty" fly rod 8' 85 225 400
#17 "Black Beauty" fly rod 8 1/2 75 165 300
Your rod can't be in excellent - mint because of the broken tip.
Tell me about the label on the butt section -is it across the flats or only on one flat and I can date your rod. My guess with current description is 1951.
Ebay is your best bet , you can try Clark's Classic Bamboo forum - classified but they want a picture or you won't break $75. at http://quashnet.clarksclassicflyrodforum.yuku.com/
I won't take any rod similar to yours, to sell on commission without a picture.
Almost all smart phones have cameras - surely someone in your life can help you.
Luck,
Mac
