Bamboo flyrods
Question
Hello, i would like to start by saying that i have been reading your past replies in regards to bamboo fly rods and i found them very accurate and informative. I have built rods in the past ( graphite ) and my father and i had started a bamboo project rod many years ago but never got finished :( I would like to purchase a nice fishing bamboo fly rod in the 4-6 wt range but i don't know what brand, model i should be looking for. Like i stated this rod will be FISHED i live on one of the best dry fly rivers in North America ( Elk River B.C. ) and i fish alot. It's purely nostalgia for me and i always liked the feel of fishing with a natural fiber rod. Could you give me a couple recommendations as to what rod i should be looking for? I don't want to be stuck with a "dead" no action rod. Thank you in advance for your time.
Vic
Answer
Vic,
By dead action I think you mean stiff and heavy.
Most vintage bamboo fly rods have slow actions.
Also you need to decide how much you are willing to pay for it.
There are 3000 to 6000 fly rods out there made by Winston or Orvis - they are beautiful and great casters but can you afford them?
Take a look at my much less expensive bamboo fly rods for sale at www.macsrods.com
I think you would like http://www.macsrods.com/cane68/68cane.html, which is a Leonard 50DF Tournament model remake.
