bamboo fly rod/ Wright-McGill

Question
I just found a bamboo fly rod in very good shape, no peeling or scarring on the rod; Dated Dec. 1938, with the name Wright-McGill Rod Co, Denver, Colorado Patent No. 2.114.107 on the handle. It has Granger Victory on the side of the rod. Has the extra tip, and the cloth bag with it.  Can you give me any info on this?  Believe it or not, I found this in the trash! I knew what it was, because I have an old kingfisher almost like it. Would appreciate any info you can give me.  Thank you very much. Rodney Sanford

Answer
Rodney

after WWII, Wright and McGill was trying to improve its fishing tackle line up and compete in the rod market. They acquired the Goodwin Granger Rod company - which is the connection to the name used Granger Victory. Your rod would be late 40s or 50s.

The value of the rod will depend on the condition and length. 9 ft is the most common. You mentioned it has the cloth bag and extra tip - both tips should be the same length.

value should run in the $100 to $250 range...unless its a scarce 7 ft rod.
