everest deep sea rod
Question
Hello sir, came across a really nice old everest heavy bamboo fishing rod with brass eyes and fittings, cant find any value or info on it. Can you tell me more about it, its definitely deep sea
Answer
Hello James,
I have seen and repaired a few Everest Split Cane rods. While I have not fished the rods, they shared similar quality in construction that most Japanese cane rods did. Most were post WWII and the Everest Brand was a high production, modest quality and low priced imported selection. Everest did produce some very fishable aplit cane fly rods. The guides on the slightly more expensive rods were most often brass with agate rings and the brass was typically German or nickel silver plated.
Not being able to see and examine the rod first hand leaves it impossible to determine if the rod is still fishable. If you read my bio and any number of my other posts you will see that I defer from giving any value to antique rods and reels. You might try RicksRods.com for an accurate assessment of the value.
There are a number of clubs on the eastern and western seaboards that often have tournaments where the participants are only allowed to use antique split cane rods and knuckle buster reels with linen line while competing in the tournament. The Avalon Tuna Club on Catalina Island is one such club and members might be interested picking up a rod or two.
So I hope this gives you some direction on your bid to learn more about your rod.
Thanks for asking the question.
