QuestionThe rod I have is made of a 6 sided material. All 3 sections. It has the fish and 5 olympic rings as well as 7 eyelets. Is this considered round bamboo or is the 6 sided material something other than bamboo?
AnswerMarc
I have seen one 6 sided rod that was not bamboo- it was graphite and called a Hexagraph.
Yours is probably bamboo but probably not Tonkin bamboo.
Your description is too short for me to help you , if you want to try again:
Does it say Combi-Rod ? Is it in a box ? Are there just 3 sections or more ?
I have heard of a Rocky Stream Olympic #2100 rod, that was in a box and had both fly and spin components. You could switch it back and forth with about 5-7 sections. And because it was trying to be both, it was neither. It was a Japanese rod , a poor fishing tool with cheap tin like component.
Originally sold by the thousands to GIs in a light long box with lures and huge flies . Mostly considered trinkets by collectors but memorial to GIs , they have little resale or fishing value. I have never seen any written history on them in English except the following. http://www.maxrod.net/article/
There is a book on Goggle books, with a little history and a limited preview: Bamboo In Japan by Nancy Moore Bess
But I lack details to be sure - a picture would probably tell me if it is Japanese. The metal above the cork handle look like tin ?
I don't even know what kind of rod it is so if you want to try again as I say on the all experts web page:
If you are asking for the id or value of an old rod please give a complete description , send pictures especially labels or logos to me,
[email protected] and a complete description including any of following that you can:
Is it? fly or casting rod ? Reel seat is below or above the cork handle ?
Check metal for id and patents ? What is it made of; bamboo ( flat sided) fiberglass or graphite ( round)? Weight in oz? What is the diameter (not circumference) of the rod above the handle? Where was it purchased ? What type of metal nickel-silver, tin, or chrome platted brass? A complete description of any logos or labels. Length of rod per section and number of sections. Total rod length.
Luck,
Mac
