Heddon model #115
Question
Hi Joe,
I just got a Heddon Model #115 premier fly rod and I am wondering about its marking. It has the Marking #115 - 9' -3F - G B Gor C. I have looked on-line and there are a number of references to this fly rod in the 9' 2.5f, but not 3F. Also, do you have any idea what the G B Gor C represent?
The Value is not to important as it was my Grand Fathers and I will never sell it, but any information would be great.
Thank you for your time in advance.
Marty
Answer
Hi Marty,
The Heddon model #115 Premier was one of two Heddon rods made exclusively for sale in Sears stores. Sears got a better deal by allowing Heddon to label the rods with their own name.
The premier model is collectible and has value.
The Heddon code breaks down as follows:
#115.............rod model number
Premier..........rod model name
9'...............rod length
3F...............number 3 ferrule set
GBG..............8wt modern line either WF or DT
C................7wt modern Level line
The 3F ferrule set was used only on rods rated as "Heavy Duty" and doesn't appear often. It could have been made for sale in a Sears store where a heavy duty fly rod would be commonly used...or, it could have been ordered specifically by your grandfather.
You can use either a modern 8wt line in Weight Forward (WF) or 7wt Level line.
Assuming the rod is complete and in good shape, value would be in the $200-$500 range depending on the actual condition of the rod.
Thanks, Joe
