Question
Fly rod Logo
I have been trying to look up this rod. Its in Montague Rod and Reel co Tube. Everything i have found on Montague doesn't fit this Rods description. It has 4 Pieces. They are all 35 inches. 3 of the pieces are fly rod. The extra one has spinning guides on it. The logo on handle looks to be a trout. This is an inherited rod. I would like to know its value for insurance reasons. And if I should use it or mount it in a display. The rod looks to be in great shape. Especially if it is for prior to 1955.
Thank for your help. Look forward to the answer.

AnswerMark,
Montague had a fish in 3 labels over the years 2 with eagle talons like yours. They also made a rod that switched from fly to spin cast and it was even worse than their standard poor quality , but it was inexpensive.
Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook by Michael Sinclair?shows 2 labels that look like yours, 1939-1949 one with the model name below the fish and after 1950 just the words "ROD & REEL COMPANY" below the fish.. The picture is too blurry for me to say.
Montague made a model Eel River 9' fly 6' cast , also I have seen the Fishkill combo and a a third from 1938 model "splitswitch from 1938.
I would guess $50 for insurance .
Price Book:
Antique & Collectible 燜ishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 #2nd edition 2000# add about 30% for age of book
Homel gives the Montague Fishkill combo with an extra tip, 3 sections the 爒alue of ?15, 50 and $85 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively.
Eel River - 15 , 40 and 85
Your rod is not in great shape - the label is torn and missing a part, the cork on the handle is very dirty. I can't see much but check Homel out of the library if you are going to estimate condition.
Luck,
Mac
