rods worth
Question
I have a bamboo fly rod with flat sides. It is a 3-piece, 7-loop rod with a pfluger no.200 spool attached. The only marking are Ted Sykes Preferied after 3 black line that go around shank & made in Japan decal before the lines. The metal looks like nickle-silver, with the spool mounted into the end cap. Is that enough info to get me a rough idea of its worth?
Answer
Don
I think it might be "Preferred" not "Preferied"
Really hard to say. You description was short. You can send pictures if you like, but please read the description details on my all experts web page. For example length of rod , sections ?
7 Loops - I think you mean guides, terminology is important not just for clarity but less than honest people will see you coming with terms like loops and low ball you.
Ted Sykes Preferred is not in my books or memory.
If it is not in the books then collectors are probably not looking for it. This means low resale value.
If all the sections are not equal then it is broken , in poor condition.
My guess is that Ted Sykes , a local sportsman to the area where the rod was purchased , put his name on a rod to sell it at a sporting goods store. We would need that area and even then we may not come up with a manufacture. I have chased one of these down in Denver , it was a great rod but I could not sell it for any amount.

Japanese rods are usually junk, not even made from Chinese Tonkin Bamboo like most bamboo rods. I would be very surprised if it has Nickel Silver on it , probably chrome platted brass or aluminum and tin type metals. Most Japanese rods have 0 resale value.
Reels rarely add value - not more than $10-15.
