Phillipson Powr Pkt 9 1/2 HCH Bamboo Flyrod
Question
I inherited a Phillipson Powr Pkt 9 1/2' HCH Bamboo flyrod when my father passed. It is in excellent condition, it has four pieces all together and the sleeve and aluminum case. The second end piece has the tip missing and is a little shorter than the other one. I would like to know the value of this rod.
Answer
Don,
One of the least understood concepts about vintage bamboo fishing rods is condition. Almost everyone who asks me for a value, says their rods are in excellent condition , Very few are correct. Your rod can not be in excellent condition if any of the sections are broken.
Price Book:
Antique & Collectible Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.
Homel gives the Phillipson model "PowerPakt" fly rod 9' c.1955 , with an extra tip, 4 sections the value of $70, 165 and $295 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively.
I see your rod is 1/2 foot longer and if anything makes it less valuable than Homel says.
So unless there is any other problems with the rod maybe $200, but confirm with ebay
