Montague Fly Rod
Question
I have found a Montague 9'fly rod, with an extra "tip" that makes it 8 1/2'. I know Montague rods aren't very valuable but......the ferrule of the "extra" tip is to large for the ferrule of the second section. with that in mind what is the "extra" tip for?
Thanks,
Jim
Answer
Hi Jim,
Value is relative. The Montagues are not as valuable as other brands, but they do still have value. What model is it? I can give a value estimate.
Does the extra tip happen to fit into the butt section ferrule? Also, does the handle asembly happen to unplug and turn around? If so, this may be a fly/casting rod combination.
If not, it is likely an extra tip the owner picked up somewhere to try to make something useful for this rod. If this model came with two tips originally, I would guess one got broken and/or lost.
Montague rods are common enough that you should be able to find a second tip section for the rod if you wish to use it. You can use it with only one tip, of course, but it is nice to have a backup.
Thanks, Joe
