Pequea Tribe Hawk4180 by Heddon
Question
I purchased this casting rod on Ebay in great shape. It is split bamboo, two piece, with 4 line guides of different colored agate. How rare is this and what would it be valued at.Thank you,Benny
Answer
Hi Benny,
The Pequea Tribe Hawk rod was made by Heddon as a private label rod under contract to the J.S. Johnson Company department stores. I am not sure how many stores or the location of the stores operated by J.S. Johnson. The rod is likely the equivalent of a mid grade Heddon rod of similar manufacture. Date of manufacture is likely the 1930s-1940s time frame.
Value would be in the $90-$175 range depending on actual condition.
Heddon rods are not that rare, but you can assume the private label rods are typically a much smaller number and therefore, somewhat rare. The value of the rod is due to the maker (Heddon) and the relative rarity of the private label.
Thanks, Joe
