Question
whats the best way to fish in northern cailfornia near shasta lake. what the best bait this time a year
Answer
Aloha Cody, I have not personally fished in that area. However, I am going to send you to this fishing forum site. There is several people there who fish in your area. The web address is:

Simply post your question there & you can check back in maybe less than 24 hours & you will more than likely have several answers. Its a free fishing forum. You can browse the various fisherman, & even post your question directly to any of them or just post it in the main forum. It is a really good site for kids as well as adults.
I will give you one of my old time favorite tips on fresh water fishing for perch & small bass. Take a lilypad & pull it up by the roots, slice open the stems of the plants & inside there is usally a very tiny neon green worm. This you put it on a small hook, very light split shot weight or none at all, a cork or bobber. Now I use a cane pole or one of those telescoping type poles. If you are using a spinning rod, then use minnows, crawfish, crickets. I would again suggest using a cork or bobber with natural baits. Anything that you find in or near the lake is always a good choice for natural baits. Top water poppers & lures that have a little spinning propeller on them work good also. Patience is the key. Also watch whats going on around you as far as birds that might be feeding on the lake. Another thing I always do when fishing a lake from the shore is to take some plain old white bread with you, toss a in few small pieces in & see what happens. But do NOT throw in too much, that will fill the fish up & then they will not bite. If something hits it, then make a tiny bread ball, put it on your hook. takes a bit of pracice to make them stay on the hook, but it works very well.
Good luck to you,
