I have been told that bluefish and striped bass are the same fish. I don't believe this is correct. What do you say?

You are absolutely correct. Totally different species. About the only thing the two have in common is that that they are often caught at at the same time since they sometimes both feed on the same prey. Both species do share a basic boddy shape that is similar. There are many differences, the most obvious of which is the stripes on the striped bass. Bluefish, as their name implies, are blue/green on the upper side shading to silver/white on their bellies. The other major difference is inside their mouths. Stripers do not have teeth, much like the fresh water basses, while bluefish have some of the sharpest teeth and most powerful jaws of any fish. In fact, if bluefish ever grew to be the size of sharks, they would probably replace the shark as the largest and most feared predator in the ocean.
