cleaning catfish
Question
I just caught several catfish and I don't know how to clean them. I do know that you are suppose to skin them, but not sure of the process in doing it. If you could help, I'd be very grateful. Thanks for your time.

Answer
Aloha Barbra,
Congratulations on your catch! I love eating Catfish. Mudcats, Speckeled Cats, Channel Cats. Cleaning them is always hard. I always cut off the head, gut it, then wash it off good, because they are a bit slimy feeling, its not bad, just the way they are. The best way I found is to get 2 types of pliers at hand. One Needlenose type, one wider type, almost anykind will work. Then starting at the tail, I try to cut between the flesh & the skin. Use your thumb to hold onto the skin, while pulling or cutting the meat away. If it gets hard to doo that way, try using some pliers. Thats about all I can tell you. Fry Them Up, Battered up nice. Aloha, Randy
