what is the best live bait to catch big catfish             /

That's a simple answer....big live creek chubs. The bigger the better.  They are similar to shad and live in most freshwater streams with deeper slower moving water.  Just bait some minnow traps with some light bread and come back the next day, or you can wade the creek and you and a buddy can use a sein or throw net, if you are good with em, which im not..lol.  You can also catch them (creek chubs) with a small hook and put a nightcrawler on it.  Then when you catch em just put em in a minnow bucket. These guys need oxygenated water pretty frequently, so if you have to take them long distance you might want to buy an aerator or stop and put more water in every so often.

Next i like big live goldfish, yes goldfish.  Hard to find them cheaply, usually have to go to a pay-pond or marina to get em...the big ones anyways. But they are dynomite.

Last but not least i like bluegills...as you well know these are plentifull just about EVERYWHERE. And just as easy to catch. I aslo like to cut there heads off and use just the head, sometimes it can be a realy good bait, but my fav still has to be big live chubs.
