what should I take fishing...
Question
I am going to Kennewick, WA. and will be fishing on the columbia. I need to know what fishing tackle to take with to catch fish from the bank.
Answer
Hi Bill,
I have never fished the Columbia in the Kennewick area so I am not sure about the local technique. The way I bank fish for salmon on the Columbia is using a large spin 'n' glow behind a 6-10 oz. pyramid weight run off of a 3 way swivel. I like to use a heavier weight so that when the fish hits the lure it is more likely to set the hook. Depending on your rod, 10 oz. can feel a little heavy. I lilke a red and white spin 'n' glow run behind about 3ft of leader. I like to use 25-30 lb. test main line and 30lb. leader. Generally, you want to have your gear in 10-20 feet of water which usually isn't that far off the bank. Take a bank rod holder if you have one. Cast out and let the weight hang up on the bottom and let it sit there. There should be some big, bright springers around.
Good luck,
Scott
