location of transducer
Question
I recently replaced my trolling motor, graph, and transducer on my boat...what is the proper place to mount the transducer on the trolling motor body and how should I aim it. The previous graph and transducer were mounted by the previous owner and never did seem to work correctly...
Answer
Darin,
When you mount the transducer on the shaft of the trolling motor do not mount it too close to the prop. The new transducer should have had install instructions with it. Also if possible connect the sounder(fish finder) to a seperate battery then the ones used for the trolling motor. The transducer should point downward unless you have a foward looking sonar type unit. When I install transducers I try to mount it so it is on the foward edge of the trolling motor tube. This so that when you are on the front of the boat and casting out from the front most people will have the motor pointed so that the boat will move foward when the motor pedel is pressed. This way the transducer will have a clear look at what is directly in front of the boat.
