QuestionRandy, as a person only fishing for one year I enjoy going up the North coast of Trinidad, where Carite and Kingfish are plentiful.I enjoy trolling and only last weekend got a large strike on my 20lb test rod, unfortunately I was unable to land this monster because of my inexperience and when the line snapped I knew that I needed help in understanding the proper techinques.
Regards
Michael.
AnswerAloha Michael,
Well, first I would say that unless you are trying to specifically catch those big Kingfish on Light Tackle you definately need some much stronger test line. And trolling in Saltwater, one never knows whats gonna hit your line. It could be a big Sailfish or White Marlin, lots of those down there. They would break you of in a second with 20# test. Now I do not know what size boat you are using, but it is possible to land big fish on light tackle, usually I use the boat to help me if I am using Light Tackle by backing the boat down on a really big fish. I personally prefer heavy duty tackle because I can't stand losing fish. I mean even then I have lost huge fish with real heavy gear. Once lost a Giant Marlin well over a 1,000 pounds & I was using 150 pound test line, top of the line Penn Rod & reel. So nothing is safe out there. Also I do not know what type of rod & reel you are using. Are you fishing alone, or is someone with you? I am gonna give you my E-mail address & you can get back to me & give me some more info & I can help you out. Nothing more frustrating than losing fish because you don't have the right tackle or whatever. My E-mail is
