farm ponds
Question
Im 15 years old and live in the country and do ALL my fishing in my farm ponds. Anyways, my pond has sunfish, bluegill, bullhead, shinners, and 'small' large mouth bass. My pond has mostly heavy vegitation in most areas and ranges 3ft. to 7ft. It is about 15years old. I was wondering what other fish it possibly might have.
Answer
Hi Dustin... Sorry it took a couple of days for me to get to you, between work and school it's been tough to get around to checking my email.
Onto your question. What fish species inhabit ponds varies over where they are located. For instance, you're far more likely to see shad in southern ponds and lakes than you are up north, while at the same time perch are more common up north than in the south. Pickerel are extremely common in ponds pretty much across the country. You may have also have spotted bass living in those ponds. Smallmouth are kind of unlikely. You probably have a variety of sunfish species ranging from blue gills to calico.
I hope I've helped you some at least. If you want to write back with a little geographical information, I can probably give you the full rundown of what species are common in your area. If I can help you with anything else, I'd love to. Don't be afraid to ask.
Thanks for asking and good luck!
Chris
